2010

Here we are going into a new decade. I wonder a lot of things as I think about where we are at this time in history. I wonder where our flying cars are. I wonder what the future of health care will look like. Will it be as grand as the liberals say or as bad as the conservatives project? Will our economy pick up speed again or will we sink into another great depression? Will we finally get over our fixation on reality shows? Will we get tired of TV and actually go out into the world and have our own experiences instead of living them through a glowing flat screen?

I also wonder what shape the music ministry God has given me will take. My desire is to be used by Him in whatever way He pleases, for as long as He desires. I have started writing and recording some new material and I am excited about the possibilities for the future. In the last three years I have released 2 CD's, played in nearly 120 different venues, traveled to Africa, spoken for retreats and revivals, formed a band, bought a house, and have also worked two other jobs while doing so.

My prayer is that God will move into this ministry into the next level in 2010, whatever that may look like. For any of you who may be reading this, I really do depend on your prayers. My desire is not only to make a living playing music but to offer a vital ministry to the places I play and speak. Most indie musicians will tell you that it seems to be famine or feast in a business like this and very few of us are even breaking even, let alone getting rich. But we do it because we are called and because we have to because nothing else brings us such life.

I'm praying about how to give this year as well. God has laid upon my heart that we are missing our calling as the people of God in our giving. While most of us enjoyed receiving gifts in the warmth of our homes this Christmas, there are so many people around the world that don't even have clean water to drink. The judgment of God is coming to those of us who see the need and are able to help but do not. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matt 25: 31-46&version=NIV
I pray that God will show me how to give more this year to the people who really need it.

I'm not sure if this means giving a percentage of every concert to mercy ministries like Living Water International, setting a goal and raising a certain amount, or partnering with ministries like World Vision as a sponsored artist.

I would appreciate any and all of your prayers as we enter this new year and decade. May we all be serving Him in the capacity that He desires for us.

Christmas Concert #1

Well, I am so excited about my first Christmas concert of the season. I had a great radio interview on WEEC in Springfield today and was able to play most of the new Christmas CD live on air.

I've been on the radio several times as a singer/songwriter but today felt different. I really sensed the presence of the Lord there with me as I sang and played today and such a sense of peace and expectation filled me for the concert tonight.

I am praying that God will take all the hard work and practice that I have done getting read for tonight's show and use it for His glory. Compared to His work I realize that my offering to Him must seem small but I am so thankful that He lets me use music, mine and other people's, to share His message and love.

I look forward to blogging good things about tonight's show. Please pray that God shows up in His way and that I will be humble enough to get out of the way and let Him do His thing.
